Located in the small community of Kalka in the far north-western corner of South Australia, Ninuku Arts was established at the request of some of the artists working at the now defunct Irrunytju Arts just across the border in WA. Some of those early artists wanted an art centre on their traditional homelands.

In the past two decades, Ninuku has produced some of the most important artists in the APY Lands. A few of these artists also worked periodically at other art centres like Tjungu Palya and Ernabella Arts.

Artists past and present include Harry Tjutjuna, Samuel Miller, Jimmy Donegan, Molly Nampitjin Miller, David Miller, Yaritji Connelly, Nyankulya Walyampari Watson, Nyanu Watson, Stanley Young, Sandy Brumby, Puntjina Monica Watson, Jennifer Forbes, Cassaria Young Hogan, Angela Watson, and Jennifer Mintaya Connelly Ward.
