Figurative Paintings

Michael Hafftka

We are pleased to present a selection of figurative paintings by Michael Hafftka. Hafftka has said that growing up in the concrete jungle of New York, the human figure was the most natural thing in his environment and so he was drawn to it. His figures originate in his visions and emotional world; they are almost never based on real people, although they may be inspired by real events.

Michael Hafftka is an American artist based in Brooklyn. His works are represented in the permanent collections of several important museums including MoMA, The Met, Brooklyn Museum and others. His poignant paintings speak of the frailties and vices inherent in the human condition. With a dramatic use of color and expressive brush work, his images can be simultaneously breath-taking and confronting.
